Paint!

A couple of months back I was internet-less for a month and was going out of my mind. At some point I decided to try my hand at oil painting after watching a program on c31, I belive it's called something along the lines of Masterclass in Oils. It's a lot of fun, check it out!

This was my first painting, on one of the programs the host had said that a lot of artists will tell you never to use black in a painting as it creates the illusion of a hole in the piece. And he said that was utter rubbish, and went on to make a beautiful image mostly out of black. So I wanted to give it a shot and this is the end result.

The second one, I wanted to make a more generic piece that used some of the techniques that I've seen on the show. I was thinking about the ocean at the time, so I started with the water and went out from there.

This has been messy, Keep Stylish.
As promised, here's the image. Sized down to 1920w.

Now that's much better :)

A Fine Balance

A couple of weeks ago an exhibition was held where I study, all kinds of work was accepted so long as it fit the theme of A Fine Balance. A very broad idea.

I'd wanted to enter since I heard about it months ago but I left it until the day before to get something done. I spent a couple of hours thinking about it, and after some more literal ideas, I decided to do something that I cared about. A photo exploring two sides of pride.

Here it is hanging on the wall, sorry about the quality of my photo, I left the ISO on my camera too low. I'll post the actual image shortly.

I'll leave the visual elements that describe a fine balance up to you to find, but I'll go into a bit of detail on the idea behind this photo.

The main idea is the fine balance between being proud of who you are, while at the same time wanting to hide that self sometimes. This is something I struggle with often. I do like who I am, but sometimes it's easier to edit out parts of yourself for some people, to save hassle.

I got my friend Kyle to help me take this photo, I didn't tell him what I was doing and that in itself is a good example of hiding myself.

This has been thought provoking, Keep Stylish.

It's been a while

I haven't put much love and care into this blog for some time. It's about time to change that!

At the moment I'm on a week long break, It's been nice but unproductive. I did start to dive into Game Maker 8.1 though, and It's fun but I think I'm going to need some guidance on getting specific functions to work. It's got some nice tools but they're so basic It gets limiting when I try to make something a bit more complicated happen.

My friend Alice is staying here at the moment to do some work of her own, last night she was making a comic strip for her martial arts newletter. It's got me itchin' to make a comic myself! Let's think of some ideas shall we.

The first thing that comes to mind is a Flabby strip, that might not be a bad idea. Or I could make something relevant to my personal life in a more metaphorical fashion. Just not I looked down and saw my Battlestar Galactica box set and that makes me want to make something space-y and spiritual. There's a few options! I'll dig into that later.

This was refreshing for me, Keep Stylish.
